Wood working is a great way to unwind from the busy day or busy work week. It can take you away for a few hours from the daily grind of work, and essentially forces you to concentrate on the wood instead of work. Not only can woodworking you help you relax, but as a bonus you have something show for taking a few moments to relax.
There are many things you can make out of wood that only require a limited number of tools. Picture frames are straight forward. All you need is a guide to cut 45 degree angles, a decent saw and glue. Then for wood just purchase some picture frame molding from your local store and off you go. If your more adventurous buy a piece of wood floor and cabinet molding of the shape you like and a piece of 2” x 1” wood (pine and fir is generally cheaper). Then you just glue the shaped trim to the 2” x 1” pieces. The below picture is a small frame I made using the materials mentioned above.

Another wood working project that suites many is refurbishing old furniture. In most cases all you need is some sandpaper, a bit of time and a paint brush. It is just as enjoyable to restore a piece as it is to make something from scratch. Every now and then you may stumble on a piece that just needs a little help and when you are finished the results may surprise you. Below is an old tea table I restored.
